How they reacted

NSS, Health Boards and industry want to collaborate to develop innovative technical solutions

Innovation technology companies sought to explore the development of secure, interoperable and scalable technical solutions in partnership with NHS and NSS, and other key stakeholders.

Engagement events were held for each funding call. Companies had the opportunity to engage with various relevant stakeholders (including patient representatives, clinicians, academics, NHS innovation and NHS eHealth staff) to understand potential solutions and discuss key issues and delivery challenges they might face.

By convening multi-stakeholder engagement events, companies were able to get direct expert input over the requirements of the funding call, such as:

  • how to navigate the Information Governance approval process and associated costs
  • how to be achieve compatibility or integration with the eHealth infrastructure in Scotland
  • ways of including citizen involvement

Supporting potential innovation partners in their understanding of NHS infrastructure (roles and responsibilities of teams at clinical, unit, Health Board, regional and national levels) as well as Information Governance (regulatory and operational levels) is critical. Even with proactive engagement efforts, issues will still inevitably arise.

Key steps

Ensure opportunities for engagement with stakeholders to foster a collaborative approach, and support shared understanding of the challenges and potential solutions.
